Sagro Decom in Vlissingen-Oost has recently dismantled a special topside coming from a natural gas field in the southern North Sea. The special thing about this platform is that event company NEWSUBSTANCE has given it a new lease of life in its SEE MONSTER art project.
At the end of April, topside A2D arrived at the disposal yard from Sagro Decom.
Over the next few years, hundreds of old oil and gas platforms in ihe North Sea are going to be removed to conform with safety and environmental requirements.
After a period of tendering, audits and meetings that started in December 2017, Sagro has signed the contract for onshore decommissioning of the Tyra Redevelopment phase 4 jackets with offshore heavy lift and pipeline installation contractor Allseas.
The retired oil rig, called SEE MONSTER, will be a reminder of the industrial past and our journey towards a sustainable, circular future. Sagro Decom is working with New substance’s team of architects, designers and engineers to create this amazing object. The 36-metre tall structure will provide a fun educational place focusing on weather, climate change and green technologies and will have a dedicated outreach team to talk about science, technology, engineering, arts and maths.
